March 28, 2016
The City of Cortez Land Use Code Update is currently underway. In an effort to identify thoughts and concerns about Land Use and Development in the City, Staff and the consultants have interviewed key stakeholders from the public and the City’s appointed and elected officials. Also, the City held two work sessions with the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council to review and discuss the comments that were provided during the key stakeholder interviews and to go over the proposed strategic approach for the updated Land Use Code.
A Citizens Advisory Committee made up of various representatives from the community, including land use and development professionals, property owners, contractors, and public interest groups, has been convened to review and comment on proposed code drafts throughout the process. This group met with the Land Use Code Consultants last fall to discuss the strategic approach. The City and consultants met again with the Citizens Advisory Committee on February 29, 2016 to review Module One of the proposed Land Use Code. View a copy of the presentation.
The code will be reviewed in three modules. Module One has been drafted and is being reviewed by the City. Module One consists of Chapters One, Two, and Three of the proposed Land Use Code. Next, Module Two will be presented to the City and is tentatively scheduled for discussion with City officials in late April 2016.
Module One of the Land Use Code, including drafts of Chapter One: Authority Purpose, Jurisdiction, and Application; Chapter Two: Zoning Districts and Land Uses; and Chapter Three: Development and Design Standards.
Module Two includes drafts of Chapters 4: Accessory Use and Structures; Chapter 5: Land Subdivision Standards; and Chapter 6: Environmental Management.
