City Parks

The public parks in Cortez are a source of pride for the community.  Our parks offer a wide range of recreational opportunities, including picnic spots and sports fields.

Centennial Park

Located from Montezuma Avenue to Empire Street and from Park Street to Mildred Road [1], Centennial Park is Cortez's most requested park for picnics and small gatherings.

Centennial Park offers two shelters, a duck pond (with lots of ducks), a Disc Golf Course and 2 1/2 miles of paths for walkers and joggers. The shelters in Centennial Park may be reserved.

City Park

City Park, the oldest of Cortez's parks, is located from Main to Montezuma Streets and from Park Street to Mildred Avenue [2].  Large, mature trees in the park offer ample shade for a relaxing picnic, while play structures offer state of the art fun and safety for the kids.

A sand volleyball court is located on the north end of the park.  Also located at the north end of the park is the Cortez Municipal Pool.

City Park has two shelters available for public gatherings.  City Park also has a stage available for performances.  

Montezuma Park

Montezuma Park is one of Cortez's oldest parks.  Located at the corner of Market Street and Montezuma Avenue [3], Montezuma Park is the home of many community summer events.

Parque de Vida

Parque de Vida is located on Mildred Street, across from Centennial Park.  Parque de Vida offers a wide variety of activities with its 3 multi-purpose fields, a baseball field, softball field, 2 basketball courts, 4 tennis courts, a skateboard park, shelters, playground, and sand volleyball courts.  The Amphitheater in Parque de Vida may be reserved.

 Denny Lake Park

This park is located off Highway 160 on Denny Street [4].  There is a playground, bathroom facilities, picnic tables, fishing and canoeing.  This beautiful place makes any visit to the park a worthwhile excursion.

Cortez Dog Park

The dog park is located behind the City of Cortez animal shelter, on Highway 160, on the east side of the City.  The dog park offers residents a place to allow the dogs to play and run without a leash on.  The hours of the dog park are sun up to sun down.   

Pocket Parks

The Cortez Parks and Recreation Department began establishing pocket parks in neighborhoods to offer park space in neighborhoods that had been developed with limited green space available.  These neighborhoods are generally located farther away from the major parks.

As well as the pocket parks, the Parks and Recreation Department has invested in playgrounds at area schools that are not located near parks.  These playgrounds can be used as parks for neighborhoods who do not have the advantage of being located near a major park.

Shelter Reservations

The Shelters in Centennial Park and the Amphitheater in Parque de Vida may be reserved.  All  other shelters in the City's Parks are available on a first come first served basis.  To reserve either of these shelters, or if you need more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 564-4080 or visit us at the Cortez Recreation Center.  You may be required to show proof of reservation upon request at the shelters, so be sure to carry your reservation confirmation with you to the shelter.
