Each year, the Cortez City Council budgets money from the General Fund to support community organizations that preserve or enrich the health, education, welfare, and fitness of the community. Funding decisions for service and arts organizations are made by Council, while funding for school and athletic organizations are decided by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The amount of money budgeted is dependent on the financial status of the City. The City’s income from sales tax is currently down. There are some issues on the November ballot that may further affe

The City of Cortez has installed stop signs for east and west-bound traffic on Third Street at Chestnut Street.  This means the intersection is a 4-way stop for all traffic.  All drivers will need to stop at the intersection of Third & Chestnut; then proceed with caution while residents get used to the 4-way stop.

Earlier this summer it was announced that the City of Cortez received a $700,000 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) to fund the renovation of the outdoor Cortez Municipal Pool.  The renovation will include the existing bath house and the addition of a splashpad at the facility.  This allows us to extend the fence further to the south to add some grass within the fenced area.  The City is collaborating with Montezuma County, LiveWell Montezuma, Cortez Leopard Sharks Swim Club, Kiwanis Club, and the RE-1 School District.
