Excercise Classes
The Cortez Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of exercise classes for all ages and abilities.  For everything from spin bike to yoga, boot camp to Silver Sneakers, check out our classes page and be sure to find a class that suits you.

Sports Leagues
There are many sports leagues offered for both adults and youth.  Men's and women's leagues as well as coed opportunities. Check out our Sports League page to find one that interests you.

SENIOR TRIPS
The City of Cortez offers eight opportunities for seniors 60 years of age and older to get together and travel as a group.  The 2017 trips are now posted.

March- A Night Out on the Town- Enjoy a night out for dinner and a concert at the downtown Sunflower Theater. The Sunflower Theater is hosting "The Show Ponies" an indie folk quintet from Los Angeles with bluegrass and old tyme tendencies. We will meet for dinner prior to the show at a Main Street Restaurant (TBD) and then meander on over to the Sunflower Theater for a night of music and fun. March 17th. Dinner at 5:30pm and Show is at 7:30. Fee includes dinner & show- $25.00.

April- Hovenweep Hike and Museum-
Take a tour of Hovenweep National Monument. Learn about all the exciting history of the ancients from a National Park Ranger then take a self guided tour of the Monument. Pack a lunch and enjoy the company of fellow participants. We will depart the Cortez Recreation Center at 8:00am and return at 3:00pm. April 28th. Fee- $8.00.

May- Wine Tasting- Sutcliffe Vineyard. If you love the taste of wine, join us for an afternoon of tasting and a guided tour of a local vineyard. The tasting includes 4 wine selections, a tour of the wine house and barrel room and a light luncheon that includes meat, cheese, fruit and some bread slices. We will depart the Cortez Recreation Center at 11:00am and return at 3:30pm. May 26th. Fee- $35.00.

June- Durango Day Rafting Trip- Raft the Animas River with Mountain Water Rafting. The 2 hour Economy Raft Trip is for those with time constraints or just aren't sure if they will enjoy rafting. You will!! We will depart the Cortez Recreation Center at 10:30am and return at 5:00pm. June 22nd. Fee includes lunch, transportation, and rafting- $50.00.

July- Night Trip to Farmington- Enjoy a night out for dinner and a show. Sandstone Production is pleased to announce "Shrek" The Musical at the Lions Wilderness Park Amphitheater. We will depart the Cortez Recreation Center at 3:00pm and return at 11:30pm. July 13th. Fee includes transportation, dinner, and show- $30.00.

August- Bar D Chuckwagon- TBD. Date and trip information will be posted in April when reservations can be made. Check back for more information.

September- Leaf Peepers Trip to Telluride
- Observe the beautiful SW Colorado fall foliage. Ride the Gondola from Mountain Village to Telluride for lunch and an hour of shopping then back again. We will depart the Cortez Recreation Center at 9:00am and return at 5:00pm. September 28th. Fee includes transportation and lunch- $30.00.

October- Ouray Hot Springs- TBD. Date and trip information will be posted once construction of the new pools at Ouray has been completed and the trip scheduled. Check back for more information.

Youth Activities
After School Adventure Club- This program provides children, age's five to ten, an opportunity for structured after school activities. The program runs Monday through Friday throughout the school year. Transportation is provided to the Recreation Center from all of Cortez Schools, however anyone can attend if they are dropped off. We also offer early release Wednesday which includes field trips throughout Cortez and the surrounding areas. For more information please contact the Recreation Supervisor at 564-4080. Cost of the program is $10 per day or $15 for early release Wednesday's.

Playground Day Camp 
This program provides children, age's five to ten, an opportunity for a structured daily camp.  The program runs Monday through Friday beginning Monday, June 5th and runs through Friday, August 4th.  Many different activities scheduled throughout the week including sports, games, arts, crafts, cultural awareness, Montezuma School to Farm, swimming and field trips.  Cost for the camp is $18/day.  Registration begins May 1st.

Arbor Day Celebration-"Celebrating Trees in Our Community". This program is designed for 4th grade students attending school in the Cortez, Dolores, and Mancos school districts.  April 27th at the City Park from 12:30pm to 2:00pm.  Bring a lunch. 

4 Corners Skate 4 Life Skate Park Competition-Great athletes come demonstrate Ollies; kick flips, and grinds at the City of Cortez Skate Park May 20th. Registration beginning at 10:00am, competition begins at 11:00 am.  Free for all ages and abilities.  Contact Crystal Peterson at 970-739-4112 or for more information.

Free Fly Fishing Clinic-Young people under the age of 18 interested in learning the art of fly fishing, casting, equipment use, knot tying, fly selection and a personalized fishing experience at the Parque de Vida pond.  June 3rd. Register at the front desk in the Recreation Center.

Free Fly Fishing Derby-A time for the whole family to participate in the fun.  Prizes and giveaways occur throughout the derby.  This free event is hosted by the Dolores River Anglers of Trout Unlimited in conjunction with the City of Cortez and the Cortez Rotary.  Derby date is June 3rd and will begin at 5:30pm.
