Friends of the Library
Who are the Friends of the Library?

The Friends of the Cortez Public Library is a group of people who believe
that Cortez should have the best in library service. They are a tax-exempt
charitable organization. Through volunteer work and financial support, they
help to make the library a center for the education and cultural enrichment
of people of all ages. Each Friend is instrumental in helping the Cortez
Public Library be “Something for Everyone.”

Why have a Friends organization?

The public library, as a tax-supported institution, needs to be represented
by an organization open to everyone and including all the interests of the
community.

The Friends volunteer their talents and knowledge to help the librarians
with special projects and encourage community gifts to the Cortez Public
Library.

• The Friends sponsor the book sale carts in the lobby and in the children’s
area. The proceeds from these used book sales go to purchase new books for the library.

• The Friends provide the periodical Book Page for the patrons of the Cortez
Public Library.

• The Friends provide funding for special Library programs.

• The Friends provide matching funds for important Library grants.
