The City of Cortez collects residential and commercial refuse within the City limits. The goal of the Refuse Division is to provide high-quality service at a reasonable price.
Fees from residents and commercial users pay for the expenses incurred to operate the Refuse Division. As an "enterprise" fund, no extra financial support is needed from the City's general fund.
Refuse Management works to keep the services strong and is always looking for ways to keep costs down and maintain service at least to current levels.
The normal residential household uses one (1) 96-gallon Polycart. Additional Polycarts are available for an additional fee. Commercial users use larger dumpsters with the number of pick-ups based on specific refuse generated.
Refuse Service Charges
- Residential -$15.75 per Polycart
- Multi-Family Residential - $15.75 per occupied unit per month unless dumpster is used. In this case, dumpster rate will be used.
- Small Commercial -$15.75 up to three 33-gallon cans

Trash service can be set up by calling the Utility Billing Department, located in City Hall, at 970.564.4012.
