K-9 Teams

This is Patrol Lieuteanant Andy Brock and his K-9 Partner, Vok.

Vok is a purebred German Shepherd, both parents were from Germany.  He was born on Halloween, Oct. 31, 2000.  Vok was donated in 2003 to the Cortez Police Department by Dave & Debbie English of Ventura, CA.  Dave was a K-9 Officer and both are current K-9 Trainers.  Vok is a patrol dog who is certified in protection and narcotics in Colorado and Arizona.  Vok is a "goooodboy" and the police department is lucky to have him.

Dusty is one of the new additions of the K-9 team for Cortez. Dusty came all the way from Germany to make his home in Cortez. Officer Frank Kobel and Dusty met in California and attended the Inglis K-9 Academy led by Dave, Debbie, and Daniel Inglis. They completed the 200 hour course and are continuing their training in Cortez under the supervision of K-9 trainer Sgt. Dennis Spruell. Dusty is trained for patrol and narcotics. He loves to go to work.

Frank and Dusty are members of the National Police Dog Foundation. In fact, it is with the help of the NPDF that the Cortez Police Department was able to obtain such an awesome K-9.

Bastin is a purebred black and tan German Shepherd. Bastin's father (Bastin Vom Kokeltal) was a national champion dog from 2002-2004 and was also on the World Team from 2003-2004. Bastin was donated to the Cortez Police Department early in 2009 by the Holt family from Alabama. When Officer Claxton  received Bastin, he was not trained in any type of patrol work.

Sgt. Spruell and Officer Claxton have been working with Bastin and he will be trained in narcotics and officer protection. Bastin is full of energy and loves when it is time for work. He is a very good partner and friend.
