Volunteer Opportunities

From time to time, the City has opportunities for community members to volunteer in various aspects such as serving on advisory boards to City Council, coaching youth athletic teams, and providing services in some of the departments such as the Library.  Each volunteer position may have a different process for applying.

Cortez Historic Preservation Board Opening

The City of Cortez is accepting letters of interest for a volunteer, at-large seat on the Historic Preservation Board (HPB).  The HPB is responsible for making recommendations on requests to designate local structures and signs as historic.  Persons who have an interst and knowledge of local history and culture are especially encouraged to apply.  The Historic Preservation Professional qualifications may include a degree in History, Archaeology, Architectural History, Architecture, and Historic Architecture.  Letters of interst may be submitted to City Hall, City Clerk's Office, 210 East Main Street.  Board seat open until filled.  The Cortez Historic Preservation Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m.

 

Board of Adjustment and Appeals

The City of Cortez has a vacancy on the Board of Adjustment and Appeals.  Board member must be a City resident.  Some of the responsibilities include:  to hear and decide appeals, to permit variance or modifications of the height of structures, yard area, and lot coverage, and grant variances from flood hazard standards.  Meetings are held as needed.  Letters of Interest should be sent to the City Clerk's Office, City of Cortez, 210 East Main Street, Cortez, Colorado  81321, or email lsmith@cityofcortez.com.  Position is open until filled.
