The City of Cortez employs full and part-time as well as seasonal workers in all of it's departments. Employees are offered an extensive benefit program and competitive salaries.  Applications are accepted only when there is a job opening. Water Treatment Plant Superintendent.  The City of Cortez is accepting applications for a Water Treatment Plant Superintendent in the Public Works Department. Some responsibilities are: supervision of the water treatment plant operations; sets general operation policies for the plant to meet State and Federal regulations; evaluates plant operation and future demands put on by regulatory actions to plan for needed improvements; examines plant infrastructure to plan for major maintenance and upgrades; operates plant in the absence of the regular operators; continues to increase knowledge of the plant operation for the media and membrane units; oversee maintenance of plant to insure equipment and fixtures remain in good condition; arranges major repairs to plant equipment by outside contractors with needed; supervises the daily activities of plant to ensure water sampling is done, grounds maintenance is kept up, equipment is maintained, chemicals and supplies are ordered, reports are completed; assists with all water system issues for project design, system planning, water quality issues and meeting regulatory requirements; assists the Director in monitoring and preparing budget for plant. Qualifications are extensive knowledge in testing water quality; extensive knowledge in the use of chemicals; ability to diagnose facility problems and generate solutions; must have a State of Colorado Water Treatment Class A Certification and get a Water Distribution Class 2 Certification within 2 years; high school graduate is required, supplemented by five years related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. College degree in a related field is preferred. Salary range is $19.69-$34.45. Applications may be picked up and submitted to the SW CO Workforce Center, 2208 E. Refuse Collector.  The City of Cortez is accepting applications for a Full-time Refuse Collector in the Public Works Department. Responsibilities are collecting refuse and trash from residences and businesses within the City, unload refuse truck at landfill, help service and clean refuse truck, and drive refuse truck if needed. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, and work well with other employees and the public. Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license (CDL Type B) or the ability to obtain in 6 months. Beginning salary is $11.02/hour. Applications may be obtained from and submitted to the SW CO Workforce Center, 2208 East Main, Cortez, Colorado, 565-3759, until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013. All applicants must attach a current driving record with application.

 

Municipal Pool Positions.  The City of Cortez Parks & Recreation Aquatics Division is accepting applications for the following positions at the Municipal Outdoor Pool: Assistant Pool Manager (must be 18 years of age or older), Lifeguards (must be certified), and Swim Aides. Beginning salary for the Swim Aides is $7.78/hour; Lifeguards is $7.82/hour; Assistant Pool Manager is $8.75/hour. Applications may be picked up and submitted to the SW Colorado Workforce Center (Job Service), 2208 East Main, Cortez, Colorado, phone 565-3759, until 5:00 p.m., June 3, 2013. All applicants must attach a current driving record with application.
