A vast range of educational opportunities await children and adults in
Cortez. The Cortez School District has one pre-school, one kindergarten, seven elementary schools, one middle school,
one high school, and two charter schools. The district standards either meet or exceed the state and national standards.
We are proud of the excellent programs and variety of choices our

Pueblo Community College Southwest
Center offers community college educational opportunities to the
residents of Durango, Cortez, Pagosa Springs, and the surrounding
five-county area. The Southwest Center and the
San Juan Basin Technical
College work together to offer programs for students.
San Juan Basin Technical
College provides Career and Technical educational opportunities
to residence of Southwest Colorado. The college programs are
designed to develop skills, work habits, attitudes and
understandings, which will aid the student in the workplace.
Programs simulate actual job situations as much as possible to
strengthen the overall understanding of the occupation being
studied.
Southwest Memorial Hospital serves Cortez and the surrounding area.
When finished in December of 2004 our hospital will have a new laboratory and pathology department with twice the work area. Our radiology and imaging department will be three times larger. Our new “state of the art” MRI machine will be housed in the new radiology department making the process much more convenient for both patients and staff. The operating room area will be five times larger and be equipped with all new and up to date surgical equipment.
Montezuma County Health Department offers programs and services
to protect and improve the health of residents with emphasis on low
income citizens.
Cortez Police Department enhances the partnership between businesses, citizens and the police by providing responsive and professional service.
The
Montezuma County Sheriff's
Office serves the people of Montezuma County by maintaining law
& order, preserving the peace, and interceding to bring lawbreakers
to Justice.
Cortez Volunteer Fire Department serves the emergency needs of the Cortez Area.
