City of Cortez Upcoming 2022 Municipal Election Information:
The City of Cortez Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, pursuant to Article IV of the Charter of the City of Cortez, the purpose being to fill four (4) positions on the Cortez City Council taking office on the 26th day of April, 2022. There shall be elected three council members for terms of four years each and one council member for a term of two years.
Candidates for election must be 21 years of age or older, a registered elector, and a resident of the City of Cortez for one (1) year preceding the date of the election. The mayor shall receive compensation of five hundred dollars per month. Each of the councilmembers shall receive as compensation four hundred dollars per month. No council person shall receive a payment for a meeting which he or she did not attend.
Petitions and Certificate of Nomination forms may be obtained from the City Clerk’s office at 123 Roger Smith Avenue, Cortez, CO, on or following the 4th day of January, 2022, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Completed certificates and petitions must be filed in the City Clerk’s office no later than 5:00 p.m., on Monday, January 24, 2022.
